October 2005, Trip to Bangalore, India

At the Airport!

Off we went to Bangalore for 5 nights while Pete attended a large Union Conference of over 5000 delegates (INTUC).

Had a suite in a great hotel, enjoyed the unusually green city. Bangalore is high up, and therefore cooler than the rest of India. Huge trees line the streets, which are congested with traffic most of the time in this city of 8 million people. We visited the headquarters of Hare Krishna and received "puja" marks on our foreheads

The infrastructure has not kept up with the growth here in the Silicon Valley of the East, and the power cut several times a day (just for a few seconds) in the hotel. The lack of sufficient drainage become apparent after record rains caused flooding in the city while we were there, several people died in fact. See photos I took while out shopping - stranded on a curb until the hotel car came to pick me up! See Video -

We also celebrated Pete's Birthday on the 24th!

What a lovely family you three are. Zoe is so cute. And those gorgeous eyes. She must know that her great-grandmother--Nonni--
played the harmonica. Zoe will be a world wide traveler before she is talking and have many stories to tell her friends later on in life.

Emily,
I loved your narrative of the rainfall in Bangalore. Amazing. Did they carry you into the hotel car, in order to keep your feet dry?

Hi Emily, Trey & Zoe,

Joanna sent me the blog and I have just looked at it. It was very well done, and I really enjoyed your stories. I'll share it with Pete's cousins, Gina, Tony & Michael. We hope to meet you and Zoe one day, Emily, and of course, we'd love to see Trey again (does anyone still call you that?). Zoe is beautiful. One picture of her reminded me of Julie when she was a baby.
Thanks for sharing.

Love,
Sandy & Joe
