Sri Lanka Days

Pete and I and our new baby Zoe made the big move to Sri Lanka on October 30th, 2004. Pete was offered a challenging new career with the AFL-CIO Solidarity Center, covering India and Sri Lanka. We decided it was an offer we could not pass up.

February 2005 - Clinton Bush Visit Sri Lanka

In mid- February the former presidents Bush and Clinton visited Sri Lanka for one day to view the tsunami-affected areas. There was a brief meet'n'greet with US Embassy employees at the Hilton, though we are not Embassy employees I do have an Embassy security badge so I got in with Zoe at 8am. Pete was in the US, and my parents due to arrive the next day. Clinton was his usual charismatic self, though looking a bit worse for wear after his heart surgery which was later corrected. They did a photo op for the kids, and so I swooped in with the youngest child and gave Zoe to Bill. He held her on his lap, Mr. Bush commented Bill had the youngest one, and Zoe squeezed his fingers and gummed him a bit eliciting the comment "Youv'e got quite a grip young lady - but that's good - because 90% of life is just holding on!"
After many snapshots the Secret Service told me to take her back, and Bill was very gracious in telling me what a beautiful baby I had.
